EMILY SONNETT

From Your Biggest Fans

Sonnett, thank you - for the joy you bring to every team you're a part of, for the tenacity and skill you bring to every game, and for the positivity and love you exude no matter the circumstances. I know this must feel like an unbearable setback and disappointment, but we have all seen you face difficult circumstances with a smile on your face and your head held high, and I know this will be no exception once you're able to take the field again. It felt like the most wonderful turn of fortune to learn that you were coming to Orlando, and we are so incredibly lucky and overjoyed to have you. I've never seen so much heart in any one player - thank you for helping me rediscover my own love for the game; I pray that Orlando - as a team, as fans, as a community - can help buoy your spirits a little bit in return. Wishing you happiness and health, and looking forward to seeing you show everyone just how much you can accomplish once this is in the rear view. -Eli

You always bring so much positive energy and a great attitude on and off the pitch and when I found out you were coming to the Pride, I was ecstatic. I have loved watching you progress as a player and am thrilled to see the impact you will make on the Pride. I know this season did not play out the way you wanted, and I am so sorry for that. I know when you are back on the pitch again you will come back stronger than ever! In the meantime enjoy some Waffle House (delivered of course) – Danielle

Sonnett, I’ve absolutely loved watching you play over the years, and even when you were up against us, I still found it impossible not to root for you. When I heard that you’d be joining our club, I was ecstatic.Your talent on the pitch is undeniable, but even more than that, I was excited for what you’d bring to our team culture. Your work ethic, experience, and professionalism, combined with your fun personality, absolutely fire playlists, and the joy people seem to feel just from having you around—you are exactly what we need, and I’m so happy to have you. This was not the way I wanted to welcome you to the club, and I wish things had worked out differently this season, but I can’t wait to see you on the pitch soon. Sending you so much love and support. P.S. please say hi to Bagel for me! —Alana

I legitimately cannot wait to see you playing in purple! I remember the feeling I got when I saw that you had been traded, and another of my favorite national team players would be coming to my favorite team! Even though we won’t be seeing you on the pitch for the 2020 season, I know you and the rest of the Pride players will be coming back better than ever. You have so many people rooting for you through this, whether it's specifically Orlando fans or the hundreds of others that love you for your talent on the field and your personality off of it. 2020 has been really hard for everyone, but you’ll get through this and it’ll all come out okay. Sending love to you and Bagel!! --Ana Lise

Sonnett, thank you for being such a bright and shining light in women’s soccer! You have a whole army of fans who agree. My heart is absolutely broken for you and the rest of the Prides. I was so ready to see you on the pitch in purple. I can’t imagine the rollercoaster ride that 2020 has given you. I am praying daily not only for your health and safety, but for strength and peace of mind to get through this disappointing season. My hope is that you and the rest of the team can come out of this healthy and strong and ready to show the NWSL, and the world, all the hard work that you have put in. Your tenacity on the field and antics off of it have solidified you as my favorite player! Thank you for being a source of laughter and light in women’s sports. Sending love and support - rach

Sonnett, you are an inspiration to me. As an avid player of the game myself, there are often times where I find myself losing my enjoyment from it- in times of hardship especially- and I can find it difficult to pull myself out of the moment and reflect on how lucky I am to play the game I love every week. Watching you at games- with a smile on your face after a tackle, making teammates laugh in the warmups and in training, and stirring up a storm in the huddle- makes me want to be able to be that person for my team, to be the one that elevates the team around them. Great players make me want to go outside and kick a ball around, but it takes a very special player to make me want to put a smile on my teammates’ faces. The past week has brought about a rollercoaster of emotions, but I hope with all my heart that you are staying happy and healthy, and I know that when the time comes for you to take to the pitch again, I will be watching with bated breath and a smile on my own face. - Rose

Sonny, you are by far my favorite player to watch on the field, and I was so looking forward to seeing you flourish this year in Pride purple! There are so many things I love about you as a person and player- the positive energy and joy you bring to your teams, your voice as a leader on backlines, your attacking skills when you see the perfect opening, your perfectly-timed slide tackles, your set-piece goals, and how you always wear your heart on your sleeve during games- we can see your excitement, your frustrations, and every emotion in between. I love how supportive you are of your teammates, from wearing their merch to excitedly celebrating their goals (I was really looking forward to some Pride goal celebrations this year). I love how thoughtful your interviews are and how much you care about everyone around you. As much as I’ll miss seeing you and this hard-working team kick ass at the Challenge Cup, I know I will be your fan and continue to support you for many years to come, wherever you may be. In the meantime, I hope you can get some killer coffee and avocado toast and that Bagel can enjoy some bagel bits! —Julia

Dear Sonny. You have become one of my favorite players to watch on and off the field. I may not know much about soccer but you have taught me to become a good teammate. The way you celebrate the victories of your friends, finding positivity in struggle, and laughter in a simple social media caption, these traits make you so special and so needed in this world. You are a joy to watch and every team you have been on is so lucky to have such a great teammate in you. I'm so excited for your future because I know we'll see great things happening on the pitch for you and the Orlando Pride team. The Challenge Cup may not…
